• By the square metre. Used where the area is measurable and the work is uniform: glass, facade washing, painting and coating.
• By the linear metre. Sealants, joints, crack repair, lifelines and gutters.
• Per item. Anchors, light fittings, signage, glazing units and panels.
• Mobilisation, separately. Rigging a building is a fixed cost whether one drop or forty are worked, which is why bundling several jobs into one visit costs far less than calling someone back.

Comparing Rope Access Quotes

• Check the certification of the technicians attending. Not the company's general claim. Ask for the certificates, with names and expiry dates, and confirm a Level 3 will be on site.
• Confirm the anchor position. If your anchors are not currently certified, that has to happen first and it is your cost, not the contractor's.
• Compare the method, not only the price. Two quotes proposing rope access and scaffolding for the same job are not comparable, and neither are an entry and a no-entry quote on a vessel.
• Ask what happens in wind. Standby time on a summer programme is a real cost and contractors handle it differently.
• Check insurance and COIDA. Public liability cover at a level that would actually meet a claim, and registration confirming staff are covered.
